Fitness and physical conditioning are very important factors if you are serious about improving your golf game. When training for golf I look for students to target three areas:
It goes without saying that any improvement in fitness and endurance can only help your golf game, and your overall health. Any golf fitness program you decide to do should always include strength training and endurance.Endurance is so important because it can keep you energized and focused for the four or more hours it can take to play a round of golf. For players hoping to compete in the top amateur or professional tournaments fitness and endurance can often be the ingredient that gives you the edge.
Injury Prevention become very important in modern teaching. I am not supposed to tell you this, but golf can hurt you! Injuries to the back, shoulders, neck, wrists, hips and knees are commonplace. Working with a golf trainer can help you identify the areas that might be prone to injury. That is why I encourage my students to do a physical screening and if possible spend some time with a golf fitness/biomechanical expert. For students who are very serious about improving their golf fitness, also for high performance juniors, amateurs and professionals I recommend Ali Gilbert of Elite Health Services.
For students wanting to do a Titliest Performance Institute (TPI) screening and follow up plan I recommend Ian Orr of Westchester Country Club.
