Tournaments

tourneyFor juniors wanting to play tournament golf it is important to find the best place to play. There are many different junior golf tours who organize events all over the country and there are several local golf associations who organize and run great junior tournaments. I recommend focusing on local events first, then, as you develop some tournament experience you should begin to play in events organized by some of the better junior tours.

For any boy or girl aspiring to play college golf, progressing to, and playing on these recognized tours becomes very important.

Getting Started

For juniors starting out, and for younger players the best place to start are the tournaments run by The Metropolitan PGA, I would also recommend US Kids Junior Tour events.

Details of tournament schedules and how to become involved are available on these web sites:

The Metropolitan PGA
U.S. Kids

Local Tournaments

For more experienced players there are very good local junior tournaments organized by State and local golf associations. These tournaments have a higher standard of play and most of them will have a certain handicap requirement.

Tournament schedules can be found on the following web sites.

The Metropolitan Golf Association
The Women’s Metropolitan Golf Association
The New York State Golf Association
The Connecticut Golf Association
The Westchester Golf Association

Advanced Level

Boys or girls who have reached a high standard of play and want to challenge themselves against the better junior players should enter tournaments organized by the recognized junior golf tours.

The three junior tours that I recommend are American Junior Golf Association (AJGA), International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT), and the Future Collegian World Tour (FCWT)

These tours are all very competitive and good performances in events run by these tours can earn junior ranking points and gain exemptions into some of the more prestigious junior events.

Details of each tours schedule and how to become a member can be found on these web sites:

American Junior Golf Association
International Junior Golf Association
Future Collegian World Tour

USGA

The pinnacle of junior golf tournaments are the events run by the United States Golf Association, The US Junior Amateur and the US Girls Junior. Details of how to enter these events can be found on the USGA web site.
